Meet Joyce

“I am very grateful to have such friendly, kind-hearted and helpful teachers. They are very supportive and dedicated to helping me with my tasks. They contact us individually to check on our learning progressions and give advice on how to tackle our assignments.

They also give me and my parents regular feedback, in our own language if necessary. My teachers have given me the confidence and encouragement to do well, and to keep working towards my goals.”

The Foundation Studies Program is essential in setting up the right head space and mentality for undergraduate life.”

Meet Ben

“My name is Ben, I am 20 years old and I am from Zhangzhou, China.

I was in Sydney before coming to Hobart. Sydney was such a big city and I felt like I didn’t fit in or have friends. I came to Hobart because I had a cousin here, and since coming I have made many friends and feel much more connected.

What I enjoy about Hobart, particularly compared to Sydney, is the more relaxed way of life. I’m not a rushed person and I like to be laid back, so Hobart’s laidback lifestyle appealed to me. I also really like boats so it’s nice to see all of the boats everywhere”

Meet Joy

“My name is Joy, I am 19 years old and I am from Yueyang in China. I like to read and I want to learn to play the piano.

I was in Perth before I came to UTAS but I didn’t feel good there about my friendships, the course that I was in, and the grades I was getting. I decided to change schools and looked all around Australia. I considered Sydney because I had friends there but decided that Hobart would be better because of the beauty of the city and surrounds, and the fact that it is a quieter kind of city.

I want to study a Bachelor of Business, with the hopes of opening my own bakery one day. Studying Accounting and Business at UTAS will help me to achieve this goal.

I would recommend Hobart and UTAS to other students; Hobart is such a beautiful landscape, all the houses have beautiful gardens. It is so pretty”
